K had a great day today. He slept so well last night and was ready to go this morning. Being able to come home to our own house is really nice. Last intensive we had to a lot of traveling, which, while exciting was very draining on both of us. I know it’s only day 2, but I really think being home will make a big difference in his stress level. Definitively sleeping in our own beds and not sharing a hotel bed will be nice too.
Day 2 went really well. He was able to power through all the sessions today. I can tell already that hour 3 will be our toughest hour this go around. Since I didn’t post his daily schedule yesterday here it is:
8-9: spider cage (PT)
9-11: neurosuit (PT)
11-12: OT (mainly working on dressing and undressing skills)
This intensive we have no breaks. So it’s pretty clear why hour 3 is the toughest. It’s like running the last few miles of a marathon. You start out with all the nerves and excitement ready to go (hour 2), you hit a groove (aka hour 2) but by hour 3 you’re gassed. Then rinse and repeat everyday. I am very glad OT is last because it requires the least physical energy so it’s a good way to wind down the session.
We have already started to make friends with the other family’s, which honestly is one of my favorite parts of Intensives. I think I posted a lot about this in the first one we did, but just being around other families that get what life is like with a medically complex kid is really nice. You feel like they just get you. And we are all there to support each others kids. We have a really good group of families. I am rooting for all the kids to make big gains the next 3 weeks.
