Intensive 2/Day 14 & 15

Sorry I missed yesterday, I got so busy packing that I didn’t have time to write. I will do a quick recap of the last 2 days and then sometime next week will sit down to reflect on everything when I have more time.

Day 14 was in the top 2 days for this entire intensive. K worked so hard in all sessions. He definitely showed a bit of fatigue from his big walk day on day 13. He required more breaks, but still powered through all sessions. He really showed us how far he has come.

For some reason though last night he slept absolutely horribly. It was just one of those nights where he woke up a lot and had a hard time sleeping. We even pulled him into our bed (which rarely happens now) and even then he had a very hard time. And because of that Day 15 took a turn.

I was hoping we would finish out this intensive strong and so excited to be done. It was fun Friday and thanks to one of the families all the kids were decked out in their red, white and blue gear. The atmosphere was electric when we walked in. But the lack of sleep caught up to us…and fast. Hour 1 went pretty well, he did ask for more breaks on the treadmill than usual, and I could tell he was exhausted.

During hour 2 is where the world came crashing down. Usually hour 2 is our strongest hour. His therapist was one he had back from our first intensive in Boston and they just seem to click. He has always had the best time during hour 2, but during the last 15 minutes he was done. Was supposed to do his walking with the forearm crutches (like he does everyday to finish the session) and the last 2 days he has been so excited for this part. Today was a different day. He had an absolute melt down.

He just wouldn’t do it. We tried everything, and thankfully his therapist knew it was just time to change gears. But it took a solid 5 minutes of crying before we could figure out what to do. He did end up walking a short distance to his reward, trampoline time. And today that was going to have to suffice.

Hour 3, usually our toughest hour, turned out really well. It started slow, a few tears and some extra cuddles. But he really turned it around and finished strong. We rounded out the intensive in our OT hour which is always a pretty good hour for him.

Overall probably our most emotional day of the whole intensive, but he still did great work and I am proud of him.
